semi hollow VS telecaster/stratocaster electric guitars?
Hi I've been playing for little over a year now with my ibenez acoustic and my fender strat. I am currently using a fender g dec 30 amp but im getting a marshall 100 watt or a line 6 spider. So im looking to buy a new guitar such as a fender telecaster or some sort of semi hollow body( NOT a epiphone or ibenez).
I know that im interested in playing music more in the genre of indie rock/ alternative/ Psychedelic Rock/ New Wave/ Pop.
HELP
price range hoping under 800, because im only 16 and i have to pay for 100% of it
oh but i was thinking of getting a telecaster or the semi hollow guitar.
yea fenders are great. I had mine on my friends bunk bed and he took the sheets off because he forgot it was there and it fell(neck first) a good 7 feet onto a metal footlocker. but it only had some scratches and plays great.
At your price range, I think the best thing you can but that's not an Epiphone or an Ibanez is a Telecaster Thinline semi-hollow. They are great too and are less than $800. They are MIMS, i think... but awesome. However, in terms of value for your dollar, the MIM solid body Telecasters are the best thing out there. You can ghet a great one for a good deal less than $800.
How about this for a dark horse? Yamaha has some GREAT high-line models. Look on their website and click on archtops. Also, look at their SBG series... those guitars are sooo versatile. Dont be fooled by their lower line stuff. Yamaha's higher line guitars are better than Fenders, Epi's or Ibanez'. If you sniff around, you can find one for under $800 maybe? I dunno. They are hard to find and you might have to contact Yamaha to find one.
Hmmm.. how about a used Gibson SG Special? They list for about $1000, but I bet you can grind someone in this economy.
Also, PRS makes a new semi-hollow thats pretty nice and more affordable than the rest of their line. I've seen them at SA and GC for about $700. They play real nice.
If you're open to full hollows, check out the Gretsch Hot Rod series.

Stratocaster Electric Guitar
Electric guitar...?
I'm about to go buy a guitar for my boyfriend. It would be his 1st electric guitar, he already has an acousitc. Would a Squier Obey HSS Stratocaster Electric guitar be a god one to start with?
First of all....you're awesome for buyin' him a guitar. You get major cool points for that!!
As for the question, the Stratocaster is made by Fender, very reputable brand, so you should be safe there. If Fender wasn't good, millions of musicians and aspiring garage-rockers everywhere wouldn't be playing them.
Another good brand to start with is Epiphone. Epiphone guitars are made by the same people that make Gibson brand. Gibson is pretty much the Ferrari of the guitar world. I own a couple Epiphone's and they've always put out a good sound.
Overall, if you're in doubt, ask a person at the music store to help you. They're always helpful, judging from what I've experienced. Another idea might be to bring your boyfriend with you and let him pick out his own. Sure, there's no surprise here, but he shouldn't love you any less....if he does he's a moron...c'mon....you're buyin' him a freakin' guitar! You rock!! Heh...anyway, good luck with your guitar shopping!
