Learning Acoustic Guitar

Learning Acoustic Guitar When we think of the traditional guitar the first thing that comes to mind is the acoustic guitar. Electric guitars didn't show up on the scene until the early 1930's. The acoustic guitar however, has been strummed since 1779. The acoustic guitar has been donned by many bands in their unplugged sessions mainly for its ability to produce a sound rich with raw emotion and richness. No amplifiers are used with the acoustic guitar.

Have no fear if you are considering trying to learning acoustic guitar, it is quite easy and enjoyable. Lessons on the acoustic guitar are fun if they are well structured and varied.

For the beginner, finding the right guitar is probably one of the most important steps before looking for lessons. Be sure to get an acoustic guitar suitable for your particular body style. Please be sure you don't make the mistake many beginners make, and just borrow a guitar. You need to go ahead and purchase your own and get comfortable with it. This doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on a brand new acoustic guitar, a used one in good shape and with the right dimensions will be fine. Take a look online or in your local yellow pages. You won't have to look far to find a great deal on an acoustic guitar. Also check out your local music store, just be sure to ask a lot of questions.

After finding and buying your acoustic guitar, you will have to determine which way you will use to actually begin learning to play. Our schedules often vary wildly so pick the way that best suits your lifestyle.

A few ways you can go about learning acoustic guitar are:

Private acoustic guitar lessons-This is a good place to start. A good instructor can really help you progress quickly. They will be there to answer all of your questions, and help decrease the learning curve. There are disadvantages of taking private guitar lessons. You will have to go to the instructors place of business at set times unless they agree to come to your house. This will definitely increase the cost. Again, lesson will be at set times that may be hard to fit into your busy schedule.

Guitar lessons purchase online-The internet is a great place to learn about pretty much any subject or skill. You can definitely find great online acoustic guitar courses. I would recommend choosing a paid service as they are usually more well suited for the beginner.

The advantages of following an online acoustic guitar course can be pretty compelling. Many only require a one time payment and you can start immediately. Imagine learning acoustic guitar on your terms at home on your schedule. Really this is the best way.

If you follow the steps in this article you quickly be on your way to learning acoustic guitar. You will be pleasantly surprised at how fast you progress. What are you waiting for, go ahead and get started now.

Learn To Play The Acoustic Guitar: Easy Tips For You

Learning to play the acoustic guitar is great. Acoustic guitars bring the notion of uniqueness to a whole new level. Just give it a go and you will see. Just to see what you look like holding one. You are convinced that if you have the time to learn, you would be fine? You do not know whether it's easy or hard to play the acoustic guitar but you have a musical ear? It's time for you to take the step and begin your musical journey.

It is some achievement to learn to play the acoustic guitar and most of my friends who have never tried it do not know where to start. It is as if they were getting all shy when seeing one. When you start playing your first notes, you feel like there is no limit to it. It is only a mental cap to pass. Being able to step out of the comfort zone to challenge yourself is something you can do too.

However, just keep one thing in mind: learning to play the acoustic guitar is not similar to magic. When you pick up a new language at school, you go through this period of assimilating new rules and new patterns. At the beginning you find it hard and then, little by little, you become more comfortable with the tools you possess. Then, you start broadening and improving your range of vocabulary, expressions and sentence structures. The same is true with learning to play the acoustic guitar

Once you've got the idea of how to play basic notes and -hopefully not long after- how to read guitar tabs, do a web search for easy acoustic guitar tabs and pick out a very basic song that you know well and play around with it. Although reading and playing acoustic guitar tabs does take some getting used to, you'll be surprised how quickly you can learn to play the acoustic guitar.

If you have a favorite song, being able to hear the song that you're working on always makes it easier to learn. Even if you think you remember how it goes, listening to it while you're learning it will help you with rhythm and detail.

Keep in mind that acoustic guitars were created to be played. There are a lot of easy songs you can learn, whether it is from The Eagles, James Taylor or Joni Mitchell. You will never regret the decision you have made to learn to play the acoustic guitar.

The Acoustic Guitar

As was mentioned in our article on "the History of the Guitar," guitars have been around for centuries. The original guitars were Acoustic guitars, which changed in shape over several hundred years. Since you've already been given a timeline of the evolution of the guitar, in this article we'll go into greater depth discussing the Acoustic guitar itself.

History

The Acoustic guitar is essentially a descendent of the Classical guitar, which, in its current form, has been around for over 100 years. The main difference between the Classical and Acoustic guitars are that one is strung with nylon strings, while the other is strung with steel strings. Since the Acoustic guitar is strung with steel strings, it has a louder, brighter sound which is appealing to folk and blues players.

Another difference between the Acoustic and Classical guitars is that the Acoustic guitar has a bigger body size, stronger structure, and a narrower neck than does the Classical guitar. The structure of the Acoustic guitar is stronger so that it can withstand the immense tension placed on it by the heavier steel strings.

Acoustic-Electric guitars haven't been in existence for nearly the amount of time that their Acoustic counterparts have. These guitars, which have the ability to be both plugged into an amp and played unplugged, have been around for roughly 70 years.

All about the Acoustic guitar

The bodies of cheap Acoustic guitars are typically made from laminated tonewood. More expensive Acoustics are made from higher cuts of solid spruce top wood On an Acoustic guitar, the material which the body is made from really matters, so those looking for a rich sound will want to choose a guitar with a body made from nicer wood such as spruce top wood.

The neck of the Acoustic guitar is usually made from maple, mahogany, or rosewood. However, some guitar necks are comprised of different woods. Yet again, the quality of wood does matter. Generally speaking, Acoustic guitars with necks made of a high quality maple or mahogany and bodies made with solid spruce top are quality guitars with great tone. These guitars usually cost $250 on up.

The vibration of the strings is amplified by the soundhole of the guitar. This is where all sound that you hear comes from.

If you look inside the soundhole of the Acoustic guitar, you'll see the construction of the body. There are braces and linings, all essential to keeping the guitar intact and playable. X-bracing, a strong, durable bracing, is typically used on Acoustic guitars because it is heavy and strong enough to withstand the pressure of steel strings.

On the body of the guitar, you'll find the bridge. This is where one end of the strings goes. The strings are inserted into the little holes and the bridge pegs hold them there.

On the neck of the Acoustic guitar is the fretboard. Most fretboards on the Acoustic guitar are made of rosewood or ebony. More expensive Acoustic guitars have fretboards made of higher quality woods.

The headstock of the Acoustic guitar features six tuning pegs (three on each side of the headstock) and six tuners (three on each side of the headstock). Good Acoustic guitars will have die-cast Grover tuners which usually stay in tune longer than other brands of tuners.

Like their Electric counterparts, Acoustic guitars are tuned in the standard E A D G B E tuning. Most Acoustic guitars have six strings, while some have twelve. If you are curious as to the difference between the two, check out our article on "Twelve string vs. Six string".

The Acoustic guitar still remains a very popular instrument. It is used in virtually every style of music-rock, pop, country, blues, you name it. Acoustic guitars are wonderful instruments for both beginners and professionals.

i want to buy my son a fender acoustic/electric guitar and i need to know if the one is a good one as in ?

sound etc.my son had a fender and through his legs collapings when he was carring his guitar he went down and broke the top piece off. the guy at a guitar shop said the one that i will be getting is 3 grades up and it is $899 but i am getting it for $650 and it is a fender (acoustic/electric)as well and it is CD-220SCE steel spring solid spruce top with cutaway looks very nice and also i tried to get as close to the one he loved so much as he cried knowing that it was an accident and he misses playing it so much he also has electric base but he loved this one and i hope i done the write choice in it

It's a middle-end Fender. It's OK, but you can get them from several places on-line for US$400.

I would print out some of these on-line ads and try to bargain the guy down (or just order it on-line).

Examples from reputable on-line music stores:

My favorite is the latter.

Breedlove knows how to do a sunburst finish. This is apparent in the AD25/SM, Sunburst. With solid sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back, the sunburst turns out to a rich, medium hue, and the wood grain is still apparent through the finish.Breedlove's Atlas dreadnoughts are different from anything else out there on the market -- pinless bridges, JLD bridge truss system, scalloped bracing. These lead to a more resonant dreadnought that compares to much more expensive dreadnoughts.

Breedlove's AD25/SM has a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back. The mahogany produces a warm, bright and "woody" sound, particularly in the bass, which is deep, yet not overpowering. The AD25/SM also comes with a soft cutaway, allowing for easy access to the uppermost frets. The AC25/SM does not come with a pickguard, which may seem odd to many dreadnought owners. However, a plastic pickguard will reduce the top's resonance, and thus it's nice to not have one, and, indeed, many dreadnought owners will remove a factory-installed pickguar. You may easily use a removable pickguard with the glossy finish, and thus you have the benefit of a more resonant top (no plastic sound quenchers) yet may also use picks without worry of scratching the finish.

Although a sitka/mahogany dreadnought will work well for many playing styles, this guitar works particularly well for strumming and slide playing. The strumming melts chords into one smooth wall of sound, and putting a slide to the AD25/SM results in clear, whiny individual notes with great sustain.

Breedlove's AD25/SM has a black headstock along with glossy finish, which complement the mahogany well. Other features include gold Grover tuners, dot inlay pattern, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and Micarta nut (1 11/16" width) and saddle. The model also comes with Breedlove's hybrid soft shell case, which, unlike a floppy gig bag, provides definite protection for your instrument.

Michael Stone owns a small business that sells Breedlove acoustic dreadnought guitars.
