Huevos's band of the day?
Formed half a world away in 1974, the Australian band The Saints were one of the original punk bands, releasing albums before either before both The Sex Pistols and The Clash. Chuck full of buzzsaw guitars, these guys never got the credit they deserved due to their location yet stand out as one of the best punk bands originating during that time frame. Listen to the clips and comment if you like.

To this day, I feel that their albums I'm Stranded, Eternally Yours, and Prehistoric Sounds are essential additions to any music collection. Prehistoric Sounds(1978) did such an awesome job of merging punk sensibilities with R&B, and they achieved this so effortlessly. Beautiful record!
A couple members of The Saints also went on to play in Nick Caves short lived band 'The Boys Next Door', and 'Birthday Party'. Saints guitarist Ed Kuepper had an early 90's band called 'The Aints' that were pretty good too. Their 'Ascension', and 'S.L.S.Q. Very Live' albums still get play time here once in awhile.
The Saints did get the credit they deserved in their homeland, but sadly fell on deaf ears in the USA for the most part, which is the case with many a great band. Being Canadian, I know this first hand, and we share the same border. Unfortunately the only bands from my homeland that I ever hear mentioned in R&P are Rush, Triumph, and The Guess Who...and that's such a tiny percentage of what we've produced over the years. Australian bands suffer the same fate it seems. The only bands you ever hear discussed here are AC/DC and Silverchair...thanks for the post!
