51T5TC34EML. SL160 The Acoustic Guitar Method

Description
Homespun and String Letter Press, the publishers of Acoustic Guitar Magazine, have joined forces to create a DVD version of String Letter's best-selling guitar instruction book. This clearly organized, carefully graded set of lessons by popular guitarist and author David Hamburger teaches beginners to play guitar using the techniques and songs of American roots music. DVD 1 covers all the basic chords and flatpicking techniques; DVD 2 gives you a solid start on fingerpicking along with more advanced flatpicking styles. David gives total beginners a great start as he teaches you how to tune up, use the capo, play bass runs, vary your strumming patterns and form all the most important chords and chord progressions. DVD 2 continues on an intermediate level, giving those with some previous guitar experience a solid start with fingerpicking and an introduction to more advanced flatpicking styles, including scales and single note playing. Throughout the lessons you

Beginning blues guitar instruction is a great way to really hone your skills as a guitarist. One obvious reason is that the blues is a wonderfully passionate style of music that has been shared by many different musicians, but another great thing about working on this style is the fact that it can teach any guitar player so much about the construction and melodic changes of a song and solo.

Beginning blues guitar lessons is also a great way to really start understanding and
making sense of scales, starting with the major and minor pentatonic scales of course.
Its one of the best and easiest forms of music to train yourself to solo with, but there
is one problem. Because the blues is so enjoyable to play, a lot of guitarists find themselves getting stuck with in the genre. This isn't to blame blues music, as this can happen with any genre that you pursue. However, if you find yourself in this position, this may be your first time experiencing something that is difficult for more experienced guitarists to get past.

You will learn much from this style, including phrasing, but perhaps you will soon find
your musical ideas getting stale. What you do is try to incoporate what you are learning about a style such as the blues, and apply it to another type of music. Going from blues to Latin is definitely one of the best moves, because the dorian mode, which is commonly used in Latin music and the pentatonic scales go so well with each other. If you don't know what I'm talking about then perhaps you've heard of Santana? what a great sound! Imagine getting into something kind of borderline.

From here you could keep expanding and learn so much about music, but the point is that you have to take it one step at a time. Figure out what makes one little difference
between two styles of music. Then decide what IS common between them. Its very possible to cross styles, get out of a rut, discover so much about how music works, and further develop your own sound and style. Beginning blues guitar lessons is a great way to accelerate your playing, but remember that unless you want to play the blues your
whole life, that you'll need to nudge yourself in order to get going with something new.

There is no problem to learn and master guitar, but you really need to have an understanding of several styles of music. By taking this on upon yourself, you will truly learn and master guitar and be able to think outside of the box.

Do you want to learn acoustic guitar but not sure where to begin? If so this guitar instructions article is for you. Today I'd like to talk to you about the 6 easy steps you should be following in your quest to play the guitar.

  • First of all you must learn Open Chords. They use open strings as well as pressed notes and are commonly used by guitar players of all styles simply because they are great. Practice a few of them each week and, once you get them to sound good on their own, practice the chord changes without loosing the beat. You should be done in a month learning them all and they will enable you to play quite a few tunes.
  • You then need to start focusing on strumming and bring some feel into your music. You should be playing always on the beat at this stage with a down-stroke and, as you get into it, start using occasional strums on the up-beat using up-strokes. Following this tip - down-strokes on the down-beat and up-strokes on the up-beat - will help you keep your timing.
  • Put what you have learned into practice and start playing a few songs that use open chords. You'll find many songs in the modern catalogue that meet this criterium and a good idea would be to find the records and play-along with them. This is such a great exercise as you will be practicing with the pro's and that will help you in your learning.
  • Learn all the 7th & sus Open Chords and start using them in your playing.
  • Now it's time to start learning a few fingerpicking patterns. This technique is commonly used by electric and acoustic guitarists alike in ballads and uptempo songs. Fingerpicking makes you use your fingers to pluck the strings instead of a guitar pick and that has a very distinctive feel.
  • In the end start playing more difficult chords like F and the Barre Chords. The E & A shape Barre Chords are definitely more demanding than the Open Chords but will enable you to play any chord all over the fretboard of the guitar.

Thank you for reading my article I hope it helped you understand better this topic. Just remember if you follow these guitar instructions you are set for a good start but it's advisable that you find a good course that can guide you apply them.

Good luck and remember to have fun!

Having played the guitar for over 20 years, the one question I most often get asked is what is the best place to get online guitar lessons for beginners?

When I first started out playing the guitar I taught myself but soon moved on to guitar lessons.

I was fortunate to have a friend's father down the street that showed me several chords and some basic technique.

I listened to CDs, to find out what my favourite bands were doing and had some success with this but it was very limited.

Of course there are much easier ways to learn the guitar today, when I started, by using books and fumbling around and learning what I could as fast as I could.

But now when I'm asked what is the easiest way to learn guitar, particularly for online guitar lessons for beginners. there are more options today. You have the traditional method of getting books from a music store or taking lessons from a private teacher. But there is another way, and I believe it is the most effective way to learn the guitar and the best method to provide online guitar lessons for beginners.

One of the great advantages with video guitar lessons is being able to see and easily replicate what you're being taught on the computer screen or television. This provides a much better understanding of what you are doing on the guitar and makes for a much faster learning experience.

Click here to find additional information and reviews on online guitar lessons for beginners.

2. The speed at which you learn will be up to you

3. Be able to visually see what is being taught will greatly improve your ability to learn

4. Much, much easier to understand when visually seen

5. Hear and react to what is being played

6. Stopping and rewinding, all is provided when you need it

7. Replay your lessons as often as you want

8. You will become a better guitar player

9. You will learn in less time

10. You'll be ready to play with your friends much faster than you think by using video online guitar lessons for beginners

So where do I find video online guitar lessons for beginners and how do I know which ones work well?

There are many courses being offered on the Internet and it can be quite confusing. I mean you certainly don't want to waste your time and money on a course that does not work for you.

There are several courses that I highly recommend, they use pro guitar players and teachers and you will learn to play the guitar the proper way form the beginning. There are several types of guitars. The most commonly known are the electric and acoustic guitars, but their lesser known cousin, the bass, is a very rewarding choice, as well.

Bass Guitar For Beginners

The bass guitar is the easiest type of guitar to learn. Beginner bass guitar players are urged to learn individual notes, one by one, to avoid confusion. Also, you do not use chords when playing the bass guitar, so the notes are all you need.

If you are an absolute beginner, you should definitely use a fretted bass. This will make it much easier for you to learn the notes, and their position on the fret board.

When you first decide to learn how to play bass guitar, you will not even need an instrument. Before you pick up a bass, you must concentrate on finger exercises, since the bass guitar takes a great deal of hand strength to play. Bass guitar can be played by both right and left handed people, so use the hand that is most comfortable to play the frets. Start by relaxing your fingers, then lift your hand so it creates a 90 degree angle with the floor. Once you are in this position, lift your fingers, one by one, making sure that it is in rapid succession.

After some practice with these finger exercises, you are ready to begin using your instrument. Place the guitar on your thigh, with the strings opposite your body. The body of most bass guitars are sloped, but if yours is not, you can adjust the guitar's position with your forearm. The neck of the guitar should be supported by the hand that you have chosen as your fret hand.

When a beginner wants to learn to play bass guitar, the most daunting challenge they may face is finding bass guitar instruction. There are several options to choose from, including private instruction, which can become costly. There are also DVD programs and books. If you are looking for an inexpensive, or even free way to begin learning, online bass lessons are always available, if you do a little searching.

As with anything else, it is always easier to learn bass guitar at an early age. If you have kids that are interested in the bass, you should definitely get them started right away. However, it is never too late to start, so adults should never be discouraged from learning to play the bass guitar. Just make sure that you have the motivation, confidence, and patience to succeed. Also, make sure that you have the time to spend on your lessons. You can't learn overnight.

Once you have some practice, it is always fun to play guitar with others. It can help you relax, and even meet new people. If you know how to play the bass guitar, you can get together with acoustic and electric guitarists and compliment each other's sounds. Start with the basics, then start learning some advanced notes. Eventually, you will be able to lay down a bass line that others will be happy to follow.

There's never been an easier time to teach yourself to play the guitar. Even if you lead a busy lifestyle guitar lesson dvds are making it easy to learn on your own in your spare time. The key is a quality lesson plan, good videos and a good instructor. Don't fall for inexpensive learn guitar products that promise you'll be playing songs in a weekend, that's just not realistic. If you really want to play the guitar and you're willing to put the time in then keep reading, I'll share with you what you need to know to become a great guitar player.

Good Instructors

I know when you think of a guitar teacher you think private lessons. How ever you still need a teacher even if you use dvds to take lessons from. That teacher recorded those lessons in advance for you to learn from on your own time, but still that teacher has to be good at what they do. Some guitar lesson courses provide a bio on the instructor, what their experience is teaching and playing. If you can find out some background information on the individual in the videos that can be an asset.

Good Lesson Plans

Just like in grade school when you're learning to play the guitar you need to learn things in a logical order. For instance it makes no sense learning strumming techniques if you haven't yet learned what chords are. Also, you should be directed in which lesson comes first, second, third etc. Some learn to play guitar products give you 200 different lessons but it's a free for all. There's no instruction on which lesson to watch when.

Quality guitar home study courses will give you an exact order to their lesson and also a time line on how long you should practice the new skills you learn before moving on to the next lesson.

Quality Videos

Most dvds today are top quality, but seeing a screen shot of snippet of the videos would be good before you buy. Something people don't think about when buying guitar lesson dvds is there are two hands you have watch when learning guitar. The right hand is strumming and the left hand is making a chord or moving around the neck in some way. If the videos show a split screen of each hand for new techniques you'll be able to pick up new skills much faster.

Getting Started

I've found that most guitar lesson dvds at your local music store aren't very good for beginners. You really need to be able to start with a dvd that has several volumes to it. This way you'll be sure that the teaching style and lesson match up as you progress.

Some dvds are available as a complete set, I'd suggest searching on the Internet for a course like this. The price will be more expensive but if you're getting 10 or 20 dvds it's worth it.

To learn more about guitar instruction dvds visit our website. We've reviewed and used the best and worst products available to learn guitar. Our top rated program is Learn & Master Guitar a 20 dvd series that offers online support, practice workbook and jam along cds to help you learn.

Beginner guitars come in all shapes and sizes. Retailers like major department stores even carry instruments for beginners nowadays. If you want to build a solid foundation in guitar technique as you begin learning to play, it is important to consider the type of investment you are willing to make and the type of sound quality that you want. The best type of guitar to learn on is heavily dependent on the needs of the player.

Classicals

If you are interested in learning music theory, reading notation, and developing speed and accuracy with guitar playing, then starting with a classical guitar might be the right place. If you purchase a classical guitar, you will find instructional materials that will focus on teaching to read notes and rhythm, and your understanding of music theory will definitely increase.

Classical guitars are similar to acoustic guitars, with a few minor differences. The biggest difference is that the fingerboard on a classical is much wider than that of a traditional acoustic. This presents numerous challenges for young beginners, or players with smaller hands, because the demands of the instrument may seem uncomfortable, due to the large size of the fingerboard. There are some smaller classicals on the market that are geared toward beginners and those with small hands. On a very positive note, classical guitars are strung with nylon strings, which are much softer and less grueling on the fingers of a beginner.

Acoustics

Acoustic guitars are great for beginners because they are versatile, mobile, and capable of creating music from a variety of genres. You won't need many accessories like amplifiers and cables to get started with an acoustic guitar. It produces sound on its own, and it can be effective on stage or in a small intimate setting at home as you advance in your playing level. If you are interested in amplification, it is easy to install a unit on any guitar that can pick up the sounds of your acoustic and amplify them. Also consider that there are very affordable acoustic electric guitars that come with everything you need to plug in.

The strings on an acoustic guitar tend to be thicker and harsher on the fingers than classical strings or those found on beginner electric guitars. You can purchase lighter strings and move to a heavier, fuller sounding set once you have developed more endurance with your fingers.

Electrics

If you're planning to sit down at the fireside with the family in the middle of the woods, this is not the instrument for you. But, if you are interested in playing some sweet and heavy lead guitar solos, then the electric guitar might be the best fit. Electrics are smaller and easier to handle, and the fingerboards tend to be narrower than most acoustics and classicals. Once you get going, the opportunities to modify your sound will be limitless, as you can purchase a number of effects pedals and accessories that will give you hours of enjoyment. However, electric guitars need amplifiers. The downside to them is that without a power source and an amplifier, you won't get much sound from one.

No matter what guitar you choose to start on, you will find that you can take the skills you learn and apply it to another form of guitar, and other stringed instruments like basses and mandolins. Consider your ultimate goals, and select the instrument that best fits into your lifestyle. There will always be time to add another one to your collection.
