Easiest Way To Learn Guitar

Having played the guitar for over 20 years, the one question I most often get asked is what is the best place to get online guitar lessons for beginners?

When I first started out playing the guitar I taught myself but soon moved on to guitar lessons.

I was fortunate to have a friend's father down the street that showed me several chords and some basic technique.

I listened to CDs, to find out what my favourite bands were doing and had some success with this but it was very limited.

Of course there are much easier ways to learn the guitar today, when I started, by using books and fumbling around and learning what I could as fast as I could.

But now when I'm asked what is the easiest way to learn guitar, particularly for online guitar lessons for beginners. there are more options today. You have the traditional method of getting books from a music store or taking lessons from a private teacher. But there is another way, and I believe it is the most effective way to learn the guitar and the best method to provide online guitar lessons for beginners.

One of the great advantages with video guitar lessons is being able to see and easily replicate what you're being taught on the computer screen or television. This provides a much better understanding of what you are doing on the guitar and makes for a much faster learning experience.

7. Replay your lessons as often as you want

So where do I find video online guitar lessons for beginners and how do I know which ones work well?

There are many courses being offered on the Internet and it can be quite confusing. I mean you certainly don't want to waste your time and money on a course that does not work for you.

There are several courses that I highly recommend, they use pro guitar players and teachers and you will learn to play the guitar the proper way form the beginning. Guitar pedals are on the market for electric guitar so that you can completely change the quality of your performance without much work on your part. It's possible that you might not be the type of person that enjoys pedals, but some of them are essential for playing a near-flawless show.

More and more guitar pedals are being created every day and it can be confusing to know what they all do to the sound of your electric guitar. Here is a short list of pedals for your electric guitar that can add more practicality, awesome style, or killer tone.

1. Go back to the 60s and 70s with a wah pedal. There's a few signature electric guitar sounds that came out of the 60s and one of them was the unforgettable wah pedal. Connect your guitar to a wah pedal and you can transform your tones into psychedelic waves that can really get your crowd in the mood to protest.

2. Get rid of amplifier hum with a noise gate. Sometimes your guitar amplifier might have a very powerful distortion channel that hums and hisses in the background when your strings are not vibrating. To get rid of that hum, connect to a noise gate pedal and when you're not playing your electric guitar, you'll hear silence.

3. Check your string pitches live with a tuner pedal. Whether you like it or not, the pitches on your electric guitar are going to go out of tune at the worst times and you need to be prepared. Get a tuner pedal to hook up to your guitar live on stage and you won't have to worry about crazy strings again.

4. Compression pedals will level the muscle you put into strumming. If you're the type of guitarist that varies their strumming during a show, but wants almost all of the material to stay level, you might get a lot of use out of a compression pedal. Compressors not only give balance to the level of effort you use to strum, but can add some attack to your electric guitar's notes as well.

5. Boost your distortion with an overdrive pedal. Sometimes an electric guitarist just needs some more distortion and buying an overdrive pedal is the way to solve that problem. The next time you feel you need more pump on a solo or raging verse, just stomp on your overdrive and blow the roof off the auditorium.

6. Mess around on stage with a loop pedal. If you're a guitarist that likes to repeat sections often and then add new riffs over-top, then a loop pedal will be perfect for you. Imagine playing your electric guitar once and then having that section to play along with while it repeats over and over again. It's your own personal back-up guitarist!

Guitar pedals are easy to abuse since they can distort sounds, alter pitches, and block noise, but using them in their context is the most important part. Think about this list of guitar pedals for your electric guitar the next time that you go to the music store.

The guitar can seem like a very intimidating instrument.  It’s true that at first it’s difficult, especially since you’ll need finger strength and calluses to be able to play well, and those take time to develop.  But with a little time, patience, and dedication, you can easily learn how to play songs on guitar just by using online resources – and never need a real instructor at all.

The first step is to learn each part of the guitar, what its function is, and how exactly sound is produced.  You need to know the ins and outs of the instrument itself in order to understand it fully and get the most out of your technique.  Having a thorough understanding of the instrument is vital to your progress, and shouldn’t be overlooked even if you’re teaching yourself.

Secondly, you need good instructional materials.  There are ebooks, ecourses, private online tutors, videos, and tons of other sources online for teaching yourself guitar.  Finding the right teaching resource is very important, since you want to learn proper form and technique – not to mention how to play your favorite songs.  Also, consider what kind of guitar you want to learn specifically; are you a classical music fan?  If so, you may want to focus on classical guitar techniques.

Practice is also very important.  To learn how to play songs on the guitar, you need to spend at least 30 minutes to an hour – ideally every day – practicing basic scales and technical exercises.  Once you have the hard part over, you can focus just on playing the songs themselves.  You can even start writing your own songs.

Remember, just as with any instrument, learning guitar takes time, patience, and commitment.  If you have these things, you will succeed and be able to play your favorite songs on the guitar – probably even sooner than you think.

There are several types of guitars. The most commonly known are the electric and acoustic guitars, but their lesser known cousin, the bass, is a very rewarding choice, as well.

Bass Guitar For Beginners

The bass guitar is the easiest type of guitar to learn. Beginner bass guitar players are urged to learn individual notes, one by one, to avoid confusion. Also, you do not use chords when playing the bass guitar, so the notes are all you need.

If you are an absolute beginner, you should definitely use a fretted bass. This will make it much easier for you to learn the notes, and their position on the fret board.

When you first decide to learn how to play bass guitar, you will not even need an instrument. Before you pick up a bass, you must concentrate on finger exercises, since the bass guitar takes a great deal of hand strength to play. Bass guitar can be played by both right and left handed people, so use the hand that is most comfortable to play the frets. Start by relaxing your fingers, then lift your hand so it creates a 90 degree angle with the floor. Once you are in this position, lift your fingers, one by one, making sure that it is in rapid succession.

After some practice with these finger exercises, you are ready to begin using your instrument. Place the guitar on your thigh, with the strings opposite your body. The body of most bass guitars are sloped, but if yours is not, you can adjust the guitar's position with your forearm. The neck of the guitar should be supported by the hand that you have chosen as your fret hand.

When a beginner wants to learn to play bass guitar, the most daunting challenge they may face is finding bass guitar instruction. There are several options to choose from, including private instruction, which can become costly. There are also DVD programs and books. If you are looking for an inexpensive, or even free way to begin learning, online bass lessons are always available, if you do a little searching.

As with anything else, it is always easier to learn bass guitar at an early age. If you have kids that are interested in the bass, you should definitely get them started right away. However, it is never too late to start, so adults should never be discouraged from learning to play the bass guitar. Just make sure that you have the motivation, confidence, and patience to succeed. Also, make sure that you have the time to spend on your lessons. You can't learn overnight.

Once you have some practice, it is always fun to play guitar with others. It can help you relax, and even meet new people. If you know how to play the bass guitar, you can get together with acoustic and electric guitarists and compliment each other's sounds. Start with the basics, then start learning some advanced notes. Eventually, you will be able to lay down a bass line that others will be happy to follow.

Jamorama Guitar Course - Really Work?

Hi everyone
Have someone tried the Jamorama Guitar course and found it useful?I really want to learn guitar and I just wonder if this guitar course is really that good. If someone here tried the Jamorama Guitar Course please let me know if you found it useful.
Thanks for all the answers

Hi Jacob
I did the Jamorama Guitar Course few months ago. Overall I can say that Jamorama was a good course with a lot of value. For the price, it will be hard to beat. Ben is a good instructor and has created a solid course for the beginner.

Out of all the courses I've tried, and there has been a few...this is one of the good ones. My only complaint is that it just doesn't go far enough. I felt like there could have been a few more lessons aimed at intermediate players. All in all, this is a great value course for people starting out with the guitar.

However, like I said before I found this course to be very good for me.
Here is one link that I've found in other answer that can give you 25% discount for the Jamorama guitar course:

Online lessons for guitar are revolutionizing the way that people are learning to play. Through the use of streaming video, audio, and literature, everyone has the opportunity to take lessons in their own homes, any time they want.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Internet Guitar Lessons

Convenience

If you could do anything that you want without leaving your house, your life would probably be much more efficient. The dramatic increase of Internet speeds, coupled with decreased computer prices, has brought these conveniences, such as shopping and learning products, to thousands, if not millions, of people. High quality audio and video can be accessed instantly. This allows for the opportunity to learn things that you might not have time for otherwise.

Traditional guitar playing lessons take place at a school or studio. This requires a commute. It can take over an hour, not to mention a good amount of gas, just to get there and home. Also, you have to include the time it takes to pack your guitar, amplifier, pedals, and any other equipment that you may need. Finally, your lesson is a set appointment, based on the time that your teacher is available. This may not be the most convenient time for you, but it is your only option.

With guitar online instruction, you save yourself up to two hours of packing, driving, and unpacking, and you choose the time that suits your schedule.

Choose Your Instructor

There may only be a handful of instructors in your area, and they may not all be taking new students. This is not the case when you learn to play guitar online. An online instruction site, such as Jamorama, gives you a variety of instructors to choose from. You can view their biographies and sample lessons to get a feel for their personalities and teaching styles, be it visual or hands-on, and decide which instructors are right for you. The best thing about sites like Jamorama is that you can view lessons from several different instructors, and learn about many different styles and genres.

Flexible Lesson Sets

Many people find it difficult to learn at a predetermined pace. Music instructors usually teach in the same way that an elementary school teacher would. Often, traditional lessons are based on repetition, and as a student, you can get bored very easily. Learning to play the guitar should be fun, which is why the multi-instructor approach of online lessons allows you to learn what you want, when you want to learn it.

Very Affordable

When you are looking for a way to learn how to play the guitar, an important thing to consider is value. Few of us can afford to spend a small fortune for lessons. A single half-hour session of traditional lessons will cost anywhere between $20 and $100, with the average being around $50.

When you compare this to a membership with an online instruction site, it is easy to see the where the value lies. For example, if a website has 100 members, each paying $10, that site will generate $1000 in revenue to create more lessons. In contrast, it would be impossible for a traditional instructor to teach that same group of people several lessons a month. With Jamorama, you receive dozens of hours of instruction for only $39.95, the same or less than a single traditional half hour lesson, on average.

Interaction

The most prevalent, if not only disadvantage of online lessons is minimal interaction. If you are taking traditional lessons, you have your instructor directly in front of you. This means that you can ask questions about a lesson or technique and receive an immediate response. This kind of interaction can be valuable when learning to play.
