how to i care for my Siberian dwarf hamster?

I have recently bought a Siberian Dwarf named Scooba. He is just a baby, and I really want to keep him for a while, and my mother told me to search on the net about info for it, and nothing quite satisfies me. Please tell me the DO's and DONT's, what I should buy, and things like that.
I have an aquarium for Scooba, but I dont have a lid for it; hes so small i dont think he'll be able to escape anyway. I have some food, aspen, and a little dome house for him to sleep in, but I dont have a running wheel. Should i get it? I have a water bottle, and I am keeping track of how much he eats/drinks. How much food should i feed him daily? My mother says "fill the bowl to the brim," but i dont want him really fat.
I have read a lot of websites, but i would really enjoy some actual experienced advice.
ALSO: soon, I will get another home for Scooba; what kind is best? I have heard metal breaks legs, so what?

I had 2 dwarf hamsters (both female) and they loved the running wheel. If you get one, you want to make sure it is quiet or the wheel will keep you up all night long. I would suggest getting a mesh lid for the aquarium, and just keeping that one. If you want, you can get an add on home for the top of the aquarium to give your little friend more room to run and play. As far as the food goes, the hamsters will take all the food they can get and hide it somewhere in the cage like a food pantry for when times are rough and food is hard to come by. If the boys eat a lot, they can get very big (I mean normal hamster size.) I havn't had that problem with my girls. I also have had a boy and a girl dwarf and very shortly had many hamsters. If you don't want babies I would highly suggest not mixing sexes, but I would suggest getting a second hamster for company. Regular hamsters tend to do fine as the only one, but the dwarfs I have had, all see to like the company. The boys will fight a bit for dominance, but once that is settled, they will get along fine. Usually the most dominant male is easy to spot because he is huge compared to the other one, as he will eat first, and steal all the food. Not to worry the other one will have enough to eat. I know they like to chew on things, they like to climb. They like fresh veggies and as a treat nuts and some fruits. The best thing I could suggest for you is to try different things and see how your pet likes them. Good luck!
p.s. They are very short sighted and will fall easily from high places, so just make sure that they dont run off the edge of a bed or table etc. They also will jump. My boys aren't afraid to jump down from the second story of the aquarium house to the bottom if they are in a hurry, but they use the ladder/walkway most of the time. They may try to jump out of your hand, just be careful!
