Is there a difference between the neck of a v neck stratocaster and a 57' hot rod stratocaster.?

I read here on musicians friend that the vintage hot rod has a Custom slim-shape V-profile. Is this different from the traditional v neck profile or are they the same? If anyone has played both of them then it would be nice to know the difference between the neck contours.

The standard V-neck is just a little wider. I personally have big fingers and find slim, small necks, uncomfortable. I custom build guitars (luthier) and all (maybe not ALL) of my necks are 1 7/8 in. wide at the nut, instead of 1 11/16. If your fingers are smaller, you may like the slim necks.

The Hot Rod Deville has more clean headroom, meaning you can turn it up louder without getting an overdrive sound. My friend owns a Hot Rod Deville, and I own a Hot Rod Deluxe White Lightning edition. I would try to get a special edition Deluxe with speaker upgrades instead of a Deville. If you want an even better amp, get a Vox AC15 with alnico blues. Those things have amazing tone for the price!

Foot Switch

I hear a boom on beneath my feet when I switch gears?

I drive a '91 Nissan Stanza--manual transmission, and every time that I switch gears, I can feel it switching beneath my feet, like a big boom when i release the clutch and press down on the gas...is this normal for older cars? Or is my clutch gonna pop? Also, question..when the clutch pops, I picture something underneath the car dragging and the car coming to a sudden halt...what exactly happens when a clutch goes out? I know that the gears will be limp and stuff, but does something drag as I presume or no?

When the clutch cable breaks nothing will be dragging. I'm not sure if the motor mounts answer is right, though. ???

Pick Guard

Can i change the pick guard on my guitar?

I own a Dean Avalanche, and i was wondering, do i have the option to change my pick guard, I have 3 pickups, 2 singles and a double, it looks verbatim to a Stratocaster, but it has 2 tone knobs and a volume, Can i change it without having to do any insane modifications to my guitar?

Hi Rock

The original Fender Strat pickguard DOES NOT FIT ON AVALANCHE. We repair and customize Fenders and look alike. Fender would lose too much money if that was the case.
The holes don't match but that is not a geat deal. The real issue is that the pickup holes do not aline and you have to file down which in the end, won't look good. Fender pickguard only fit on fender products. Period.

What I suggest is to buy a square piece of whatever pickguard you desire, remove the old, and draw the oultline on the new piece. That is the technique we use. We have a dremel which allows a perfect cut. We finish with sandpaper and buffer.

Your choice. It is easier than you think to make a pickjguard. If oyu decide, the outline is files on a 45 deg angle to give it the smooth look.

Are you a member that is looking for something to do? Why not try a couple Runescape treasure trails? They are quite fun and very rewarding. Electric Bass

Any suggestions for transitioning from Electric Bass to Double Bass?

I have been an electric bass player for years, but recently I have taken a large interest in Rockabilly music and would like to start playing upright bass. I don't know anything about upright bass, and there aren't many people around where I live that know anything either. Does anyone have any tips for making the transition less painless? Maybe tips about equipment (prices, good brands, brands to avoid, etc), techniques, etc? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm strictly an electric bass guy, though I've dabbled just a bit with playing acoustic upright - so I know all about torn-up fingers.
I seem to recall in the dim & distant past that Lee Rocker, who played upright for the Stray Cats, released an instructional video on Rockabilly Bass. I'm not 100% certain of its existence, but you might check out Amazon to see if an old VHS copy's available used. Otherwise check out any Stray Cats vids to see his technique, especially how he uses slapping (entirely different from the slap'n'pop technique used on electrics).
It'll be tough on your fingers - you'll want to invest in something like Liquid Bandage or some variation. It puts a clear coating over blisters and will enable you to keep your fingers from getting too shredded. Otherwise, for plucking try to use as much of the side of your fingers as possible rather than the tips.
Gear - I'm no expert but I'll offer what I do know.
You'll probably want to use an amp & mike your acoustic - let the mike give you extra volume rather than playing harder. The amp wouldn't need to be too loud; you could probably just run the bass amp you currently use.
As for the actual bass - can't offer recommendations, but from a cost & availability perspective you might be able to find a decent used 3/4-size or 7/8-size acoustic; either of these will be slightly smaller than the acoustics you'd find in a symphony orchestra.
