Unfortunately, no one is going to sell to you at quantity discount prices on just the promise of quantity purchases later. That is, unless the parts supplier is really hurting or you make a really good pitch.

You didn't say what parts in particular you were looking for. One suggestion I would give you is to buy your electronics from a different supplier than your necks/bodies/etc. The "one stop shopping" places have bought their electronics from an electronics distributer, and then added their markup to it.

I don't know what your business plan is (or if you have one for that fact), but custom guitars is probably one business you should not try to differentiate your self by price. If you got the cheapest components out there, you still couldn't build a guitar cheaper than what's being imported these days.

If I'm on a budget, I'm not going to look at a custom guitar. If I'm looking at a custom guitar (and I've bought a few), then price is secondary to my decision.

If you wish to learn the electric guitar there are many who would advise starting off with an acoustic guitar and when you are on the way to some level of proficiency, move up to, or upgrade to, an electric guitar. Some would advocate starting with an electric guitar for beginners. Well let me tell you, there is no such thing!

I personally learnt to play on an acoustic guitar when I was about thirteen but that was not from choice but simple economics. My sister had one of these guitars and it was cheaper for me to rent it off her (yes, rent! I think she now realises how mean she was) than buy an electric guitar. My first electric guitar arrived some months later as a birthday present.

Why There Is Confusion

People can be forgiven for thinking that there is such a beast as an electric guitar for beginners. Electric guitars are made for children i.e. they are simply smaller in size such that a small child could handle the guitar properly and safely. Guitars are also made in three quarter size. This is not an electric guitar for beginners because it is smaller; it is purely because some people prefer to play an instrument of this size. So, because there are smaller guitars available I can understand some people’s confusion. Additionally, some manufacturers like Fender and Gibson produce what they call “starter kits”. They are called this purely because everything is enclosed in the package e.g. guitar, amplifier, lead, chord book or chart, spare strings and even the guitar pick or plectrum.

If you wish to learn an electric guitar, learn on one! There really is no merit in purchasing the acoustic version unless you aspire to be John Martin and that is the instrument you wish to play. The chords on each are exactly the same, the notes on each are the same, the basic structure is the same etc. To be honest, it is probably easier if anything to learn on an electric guitar as the guitar neck is thinner which makes fingering chords less difficult.

Electric or Acoustic Guitar?

The advantage of using an acoustic rather than an electric guitar for beginners is that, that is all you need. As mentioned, with an electric guitar you will need an amplifier to hear how the guitar sounds. It can be played without an amp but that's not why you wanted to learn the electric guitar, is it!

It can be said that it is harder to learn electric guitar for beginners but this is only because you have a greater choice of sounds from the combination of the guitar and amplifier to manipulate and be satisfied with. So, it's not harder but simply there is more to learn. However seeing what sounds you can produce is the real fun part after you have started to bang out a few chords or licks. Even more fun comes when you start purchasing and experimenting with effects pedals to further enhance the range of sounds you find you are producing.

So, just so there is no confusion, there is no such thing as an electric guitar for beginners. Whether you go for the acoustic or electric options, you will have a lot of hard work in front of you if you wish to play to a proficient level but, you will also have hours of fun, enjoyment and satisfaction to go with that. Hi. Well it is a pretty guitar, but it is low end. Guitarists tend to be picky about what they play. I would be nervous if my wife told me that she bought me a guitar and she has been with me for 14 years. So unless she bought a copy of what I already have, I would be skeptical until I saw it. There are many features and brands out there. If you really want to get him something that is guitar related 1 - check out his guitars and write down brands and models, take that to the shop with you and talk with someone at the shop, although if you do not know much about guitars, I wouldn't fully trust the sales staff. What your best bet may be is to get your boyfriend a gift card/ certificate from the store. This way, he can hand pick something and you know that he will be satisfied with it. I hope that I didn't discourage you, but as I stated earlier players are very strange and picky about their instruments. Good Luck

There will come a time when you will need to change the strings of your bass guitar. For that reason, here is a bass strings guide you can refer to. To begin with, bass strings are cords that are thickly coiled so they can produce very low sounds. You can buy them usually in sets of 4 to 6 strings depending on your type of bass guitar. 4-stringed bass guitars require strings for E, A, D, and G.

Your guide to strings

A bass strings guide won't be complete without it telling you about the qualities of the strings you can buy and these are the stainless steel and the nickel-wound bass strings.

If you prefer to play bass with a rock band, then the nickel-wound strings are ideal for you because their tones are captivating and clear. These are strings that are made with steel wraps that are plated with nickel.

However, if you prefer to play your bass without the clicking sound caused by your fingers or the strings hitting the fretboard, you can opt for the stainless steel bass strings because they are smoother and restricts noise. These are also ideal if you like playing in long gigs and performing in studio sessions.

Still, make sure to check on the durability of your bass strings-you wouldn't want one to snap in the middle of your performance. It will definitely hurt.

For extra durability, make sure they have a round core to provide a more cohesive contact between the core wire and the outer wrap. Aside from that, make sure that they are treated with liquid nitrogen to ensure longevity and prevent immediate rusting or thinning due to sweaty fingers and excessive use.

Pickguard Screws

Installing a Custom Pickgaurd?

So I recently bought an Epiphone SG special (I sold my Squier bullet strat for it) but it doesn't have a pickguard. There is a place not too far from here that do EVERYTHING plastic and I was going to get a pickguard made for me but I need to know some things before I get it done.
I need a template to put my design on. Does anyone have one/know where to find one? Please remember that a regular SG pickguard won't fit an Epiphone SG.

Draw one up yourself to suit your instrument.
When you have the plastic cut and polished, you can glue it on with contact adhesive.

You could just clean them... it's probably dead skin that's fallen off your fingers from callouses. My boyfriend plays guitar and I know he's sometimes complaining about how disgusting it is to see his dead skin on his strings and beneath them on the neck and such.
