How is the Jackson MG Series DXMG Dinky Electric Guitar in terms of playing anything other than metal?

This is my first guitar but i dont want to settle for anything cheap. Metal is my favorite but i would like to be able to play lighter music also

jackson's as far as i know dont play much other than metal, grunge, and maybe blue (depends on the pickups)

not telling you to go cheap but if u like metal go ibanez or esp.
both capable of playing everything, but mainly play metal.

i know its tough picking out a first guitar, but go with what your gut tells you.
when picking a guitar look for:
1.sound
2.feel
3.weight (performance capability)
4. then look at what it looks like on you.

What guitar stand should i buy for an explorer shaped guitar?

I have just bought a gibson explorer and i need a stand for it, my dad won't let me have a guitar wall hanger so i need a stand. i saw a couple of hercules stands on the internet that 'auto-lock' your guitar into place at the neck. Would an explorer neck fit in as it is quite thin? and they are a few different models and i don't know which one is best, can someone plz help me? thanks

Any stand will work as long the guitar is being hung by the head. Just make sure the stand is high enough so your guitar isn't sitting on the ground.

Since the head of the guitar is bigger than the neck, it will work just like any other guitar. With the exception of those guitars with no heads on the ends of the neck.

Do you need a pickguard on an acoustic guitar?

I am a beginner and was wondering, do you need a pickguard on an acoustic guitar? What are the benefits? Would it be wise for me to buy a guitar with a pickguard or does it not matter? Thanks in advance!

Well, its really about preferance

When I was a beginner, I felt that I needed a pick-guard because I was so scared to scratch the finish on my guitar

But, as I grew used to my guitar, I learned that very rarely my pick actually hits the pick-guard.

It is not necessary, its really up wheather you feel comfortable with or without one.
I do recommend them for beginners, as a " just in case"
As well, when you feel you dont need one but are still trying to be carefull not to scratch the finish, get a CLEAR pick-guard. I have seen guitarists use clear pick-guards, it makes their guitar look really great because you cant see it, you just see the beautiful finish as well as being safe and carefull!

Just to finish up, its not needed but if you feel that you want it to be safe, go right a head

That's easy.

Use a screwdriver. There's screws. As for how many of the screws you have to take out (front, back etc). I have no idea. You might end up completely taking the controller apart.

Unless you have a really good idea of what you're doing. I suggest not tampering with it. Because if you break it, its broke. There's no "well, it'll still work..." when it comes to this type of thing.

If you insist on modding a guitar controller. Don't use the crappy Rock Band strat. Use the Les Paul from GH3. That guitar is far superior to the strat.

A steel guitar is played with a bar you hold and a regular guitar you play with your fingers or a pick.

Fender Squire
How much can I sell a fender squire affinity for?

I've had it for about 3-4 years, it's in great condition with a guitar case and all the leads. How much do you think it would be worth?
Thanks Russell E, I'm planning on getting an ibanez, not a big fan of fender guitars but I've had this guitar for ages and wanted to sell it for something better. The only thing it's a soft-case not a hard-case.

The guitar itself sells new for $150. A Hardshell case for a strat is about $85.

I'd take $50 off the guitar, and add $50 for the used case.

So I'd think a reasonable asking price would be about $150.

The Affiinity is not a bad guitar. Not the best, but it's a good cheap guitar.
But like the other guy said I don't think the resale value would be all that high, although I think he's lowballing it a bit. A Squier Bullet strat is worth about what he said, but The Affinity is a better guitar than that.

Very, very unlikely. Mylar, disc ceramic and other small capacitors are pretty rugged. Still, they fail from careless handling just often enough to make a good technician careful.

Response to added details:

1N4007 is a common glass package, but is ruggedized like most board level resistors and diodes. These components are also light weight. They don't often break by just being dropped. The usual failure mode before being inserted in a circuit (then, you're on your own) is bending the wires too sharply, stepping on them on uneven surfaces, and so forth. They are all very easy to test with your meter. For a little better check, use a charging battery and resistor for the diodes and capacitors, and check their behavior on your scope.

Mostly, these components stand up well to life on the workbench, including the occasional drop to the floor. Put one of the diodes on the bench, tap it progressively harder with a hammer until it finally fails, or until your nerve breaks, and see for yourself.
