How can you set up a guitar string to break at a certain time?
I'm gonna play a live performance eventually of an original song and I want to break a string near the end, while playing it, but I want it to be set up, and I'm not sure how I could do that. Help?
Also, I can't just tighten it up so it breaks easily, because I need to be able to play it in standard tuning.
Why the hell would you want to do that? It's really not that cool to break strings during a set, it's annoying as hell. If you've got a guitar with a floating tremolo it's going to go out of tune. Even if you've got a stop tail or string through body and you have more songs to play, that string is going to give you some tuning issues for a few songs.
A pick won't break the strings, your pick should fail before your strings will. Generally strings break due to being really old, in which case they weaken significantly, there is a sharp point on the saddle, or there is something going on at the tuning machine. Possibly the nut can cause it too. I still don't know why you'd want to do that.
